The Northern Wisconsin District (NWD) is one of twelve districts in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The NWD was formed in 1917 and is home to over 150+ WELS congregations , 50+ WELS elementary schools, and 3 WELS high schools. With around 70,000 members the NWD is one of the largest districts in the WELS and works together to support our Synod's mission to proclaim Christ's love.
